    Headphone Repair!

    en Phones/Tablets/PCs

Hi there - I'm looking for someone in Portland who might be able to assist with repairing two pairs of plug-in headphones. I hate to just throw them in the trash and would love to fix them instead. Thank you for any advice!

Hi, I do this kind of work. What brand of headphones?

Thank you! They are both kids over the ear headphones. One pair is JBL, the other is Spiderman merchandise, so I'm not sure who the manufacturer is. How much would you charge for this sort of thing? I'd love to chat with you more about that.

So the first thing to determine is if the cord is bad (Which is usually the case.) Does the wire split and go to each ear? Or does it not split and only go to one ear?

Here's an appropriate replacement for the split type:

I have repaired them by not replacing the wire and shorting up the leads to the earpieces but usually other wires quickly fail after doing that.

Hmm, would you recommend replacing the wire entirely then? And is that something you could help me with? I'm very electronically challenged over here. :) Or does it seem too much hassle, and I should just buy new pairs for the kiddos? Thank you!

I could help you with the replacement. If I have to do the soldering I'd adjust my price so you wouldn't be tempted to trash them. Send pictures of the headphones. Try testing them by plugging them in to test them then try pushing the wire together, compressing them, at the earpieces and the plug and see if you can get them to come back on. That would tell you it's the wire.
